Kremlin says ‘significant part of Ukraine wants to be Russia’

The Kremlin claimed that a “significant part” of Ukraine wants to be part of Russia, following US President Donald Trump’s remark that Ukraine “may be Russian someday.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the situation aligns with Trump’s statement, citing Moscow’s 2022 annexation of Ukrainian regions. Trump has prioritized ending the war, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness for talks. However, Kyiv fears any settlement lacking strong military guarantees could allow Russia to regroup for future offensives.
