Nepali Congress lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada proposed selling monkeys to China to address growing agricultural destruction caused by the animals. Citing Sri Lanka’s example, he suggested it as a strategy to manage the simian menace in hilly areas. However, legal barriers exist, as Nepal is a CITES signatory, restricting rhesus monkey trade. National laws also protect these species, imposing strict penalties for unauthorized export or harm.
